Lipari is the largest of the Aeolian Islands and on August 24th each year they have an incredible fireworks display in celebration of San Bartolomeo, their Patron Saint.
Shooting fireworks is challenging at the best of times, particularly when sailing and without the use of a tripod. Its a skill I am still learning and these 3 pictures came out best (from a batch of about 15).
I did leave the boat and in the absence of a tripod I resorted to steadying the camera on a wall.
The first shot was taken handheld at 1/2o (3200 ISO, f/2.8), the second shot was taken with the shutter open for 15s (100 ISO, f/5) and the third was 3.2s, ISO 100, f/10.
All were taken with a 5D MKIII at 70mm (24 – 70 f/2.8 L II).
